5 Reasons Why You Should Start Eating Raw Honey

Most people know that honey is good for them. What they don’t know is that not all honey is created equal. Many store-bought brands heat their honey, which essentially removes the bounty of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, pollen, and propolis, the very benefits you should be enjoying from honey. Raw honey is unpasteurised and unfiltered, giving you the buzzworthy benefits that this superfood is packed with for your best health.

Raw honey can help you achieve your wellness goals when you eat it daily. In fact, after you read these 5 reasons why you should start eating raw honey, you’ll likely find any excuse to dribble it into your tea, pour it onto your toast, or simply eat it by the spoonful.

  1. It’s brimming with antioxidants

Antioxidants are one of the most important things you can get into your diet. Raw honey has flavonoids, phenolic compounds that work along with organic acids to create potent antioxidant powers. Since they stop free radicals from damaging your cells, the more antioxidants you get, the better your chances are of avoiding diseases like cancer or having a heart attack or stroke.

  1. It helps lower blood pressure and improves cholesterol

Speaking of heart troubles, when you have high blood pressure, it puts you at high risk for heart disease. The antioxidant compounds found in raw honey have been shown to be effective in lowering blood pressure, thus preventing diseases of the heart.

Along with that, when you have high levels of LDL cholesterol (the bad cholesterol), you also are at greater risk for heart disease. Left unchecked, LDL cholesterol can clog up your arteries and bring on a heart attack or stroke. Researchers found that raw honey reduces LDL cholesterol while raising HDL cholesterol (that’s the good cholesterol). So, show your heart some love and eat more raw honey!

  1. Lower your triglycerides with raw honey too

Again, raw honey comes to the rescue with elevated triglycerides in your blood. These are also what causes insulin resistance which can increase your odds of having type 2 diabetes. Triglyceride levels rise when you consume too many sugars and refined carbs in your diet. But with regular consumption of raw honey, triglyceride levels become lower, which is especially beneficial if you replace sugar with raw honey when you want to sweeten up your life.

  1. It boosts the effectiveness of your immune system

Now more than ever, keeping your immune system strong and humming along is of utmost importance. Whether there’s a pandemic or not though, your immune system needs to be functioning at its best to defeat invading microbes and infections. Raw honey’s phytonutrients are antibacterial and antiviral, ideal for the benefit of your best immunity. They used to say to eat an apple a day to keep the doctor away, but now everyone is abuzz about the power of raw honey to build your immunity.

  1. Get an edge on your workouts

For your best health, it’s important to approach it through both exercise and diet. When you start eating more natural, whole foods, your body will respond in kind. While diet is a big part of losing weight and getting in good health, exercise is important too. It gets the blood flowing to all your muscle groups and delivers oxygen to your cells. It keeps you feeling young and active too.

Arguably, the hardest part is starting. When you feel like you’re dragging after work, having a tablespoon of honey before you jump into your workout can give you the boost of energy you need. No pep pills required! You can also shake it up in your water bottle to guzzle down as your workout or have it afterwards to keep your energy level on an even keel.

With 17 grams of carbs in each tablespoon, it fuels your body naturally with a steady stream of blood sugar levels without spiking that causes the kind of crashes that sugar and other sweeteners give you. Have a little raw honey before your workout to tap into a perfectly natural and efficient energy source and reach your fitness goals!

Bonus benefit: Get better sleep through raw honey

According to nutritionist Lindsey Duncan, raw honey can engage tryptophan, a compound known to elicit sleepiness, in the brain. Have a spoonful of it shortly before bed (but don’t forget to brush your teeth!) and you could soon find yourself off to a restful night of sleep in dreamland.

I would like to know the size of a jar and once opened how long it last

    1. BeeRoots says:

      Hi Marjorie,

The jar contains 300g of raw honey. If consumed at moderate levels (2 teaspoons a day) – one jar should last around a month.

When properly stored in a cool dry area away from direct sunlight, honey can last for a very long time (over 2 years).

      Hope that answers your question.
