Our raw honey

We capture the delicate fragrance and flavour of nature in our raw honey.

It all begins in our fields where worker honey bees find nectar from flowers and trees surrounding their hives.

The harvested nectar is brought back to the hives by the honey bees where the complex sugars are processed and broken down into two simple sugars called glucose and fructose.

These are deposited into the honeycomb cells followed by a water evaporation process to reduce the water content resulting in lush and rich honey.

When the moisture content drops below 18%, the cells containing fresh and raw honey are capped and sealed by the bees.

Our artisan bee-keepers harvest excess honey only when plentiful and appropriate. This is to ensure our bees have enough honey to feed on during the winter months.

For the whole team at BeeRoots, our love for nature and passion for honey means that we source and harvest the finest raw honey using only sustainable and ethical methods.

Nature’s Superfood

Raw honey comes straight from the beehive and is a potent superfood gathered by one of the most profound creatures on planet earth. Unpasteurised raw honey has been used throughout the centuries as a food source as well as a medicinal remedy.

Raw honey is unheated, natural sweeteners that still retain all the nutrients, enzymes and medicinal compounds that honey is known for. It is loaded with vitamins C and B6, iron, calcium, thiamine and plenty more. Honey is this state is a living food, high in anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-viral properties.

Unlike much of the processed honey most people are used to, raw unprocessed honey is nothing like the blended and watered-down versions. Many commercial honey products found in mainstream grocery stores are often blended, ultra-filtered, and pasteurised.

These processes remove most of the nutrient rich elements and kills all beneficial microorganisms and other health enhancing components such as minerals and enzymes found naturally in quality raw honey. Raw honey thus is far superior and beneficial than your regular honey.

When honey is left in its purest raw form, it’s truly a superfood rich with vital nutrients we need. In this day and age, it can be hard to find a quality honey product – but it’s another matter finding one that ticks all the boxes we do.

What Makes BeeRoots Honey Special?

01

Ethically harvested

At BeeRoots we are against all forms of animal cruelty – and that extends towards insect life too. To maintain a cruelty-free, sustainable and ethically responsible approach, we only ever harvest excess honey from our hives; the rest is reserved for our hardworking bees. We also operate on organic principles, which means we don’t use any herbicides or pesticides.

02

Natura 2000

Situated in the protected region of Natura 2000, our apiaries offers the perfect conditions for honey production. The clean and pristine landscape of White River Valley gives our honey a deliciously rich and distinct taste. To enhance the flavours of our raw honey, we skillfully manage three key elements: nature, timing, and temperature.

03

Cold Extracted for
Natural Goodness

Our honey is raw and cold-extracted, which means it has been extracted directly from the hive without being heat-treated, processed or pasteurised. As a result, our honey preserves all its naturally occurring enzymes and antioxidants. Raw honey also has antibacterial properties, which means it can be used to soothe coughs, sore throats and minor wounds.

True Crystallisation
04

True Crystallisation

A key characteristic of our raw honey is that it naturally crystallises, forming a firm, fondant-like texture composed of fine crystals. Crystallisation is a natural reaction that actually preserves the flavour of the honey so that neither the taste or quality of the honey is compromised.
